After

we fall asleep cheek to cheek,
all the day's dance
dissolving into loose jaws and
untidy limbs and the sweet sighs of dreams.

we lose our definition
to each other,
as one as two in sleep.
no seeing, just being.

i like to imagine so many
of our shared breaths
leaving our lips and
coming together to
carry on an invisible routine,
of which we aren't aware.

This is so lovely.

We used to talk to each other in our sleep--conversations carried on that would often wake us up. I always liked to imagine we were saying all the things we couldn't say in the harsh light of day.
